Selby District Disability Forum

Say Hello To SDDF

SDDF is your Selby District Disability Forum. SDDF works to improve services and attitudes across Selby District and empower people with disabilities. We are always looking to get involved in new projects and conversations, ensuring that people living with disabilities in our District can have their say. Most of our members have health conditions or disabilities, so we are ‘experts by experience’. Read on to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how you can get involved!

About Us

What We Do

We identify issues in day to day life that affect people with disabilities, such as; access to towns and villages, shops and services, public transport, and equal access to opportunities.

We then look at ways of removing these barriers, supporting local communities and decision makers to find solutions, and make improvements for the benefit of the people.

Lack of access or opportunity should never be the barrier to full participation in society and life for anyone.

How We Do It

We run informal and friendly meetings regularly throughout the district to share ideas and concerns, support one another, and find out about projects to get involved in.

We take part in local and regional events to network with other organisations, providing them with the viewpoints of people with disabilities, and boosting disability awareness.

We also run regular independent research and surveys to ensure our efforts remain focused, and our impact felt.

Get Involved

By joining Selby District Disability Forum, you can help to promote equal access and support people with disabilities to have a stronger voice, making positive changes for our whole community.

Everyone is welcome, so please just contact us to find out where and when the next meeting is near you. If meetings aren’t for you, there are plenty of other ways you can get involved. Such as:

  • Local Action Groups
  • Mystery Shopping
  • Disability Awareness
  • Street Audit Work
  • Campaigning
  • Fundraising
  • Community Events

Wherever possible and needed, we aim to have a BSL interpreter at our meetings. If you have any other specific needs or requirements, let us know and we will be happy to accomodate to the best of our abilities. Afterall, access is what we aim for in everything we do!
